Created pockets in the kerf lining to receive the back braces. Tested the fit of the back and temporarily clamped the back to the sides to trim the excess material flush with a router.

Glued the back onto the sides with a rubber strip cut from an inner tube.

Routed out a channel for the tail block splice - a contrasting strip of blonde wood that will run perpendicular to the side grain. Cut the strip in a ‘wedge’ shape to make as tight a fit as possible, then glued and tapped into place. After that, trimmed the ends of the splice flush on each side.
